LAKE WINNEBAGO AREA REPORT
Trolling is the ticket right now out on Lake Winnebago. The action is real good all over out in the "MUD". Several people are running harnesses and several others are running cranks. It seems both are working equally well. We have been in 19 feet of water and using flicker shad at 50 to 100 feet back with some good success. I will be out most of the week and I will be trolling the MUD for sure. We have beeng going at 2.0 MPH to start and then making adjustments from there. We have been using a variety of colors to catch our fish and no one color seems better then another.
I will be fishing the Brickyard Walleye Tournament on 6/27/2009. I hope to see some of you at the weigh-in.
Crawler Harnesses and Scootchie rigs are working very well for bigger fish. Most are trolling at 1.0 MPH and adjusting from there. We are using 1/4 oz. inline weights and running the harnesses from 20 to 40 feet back. Purple colors and red colors seem to be the ticket right now.
We have been noticing the past few days that when we are running our baits higher in the water column we are really getting a lot of Whitebass. We have now moved our baits a little deeper and are doing a lot better for walleyes.
The North end of the lake really seems to be lacking the Sheepshead, but those on the south end of the lake have reported to me that it is a sheepshead haven. You may have the goats, but we have those pesky whitebass, wanna trade???
The reefs have been very slow for fishing and I am blaming the clear water for it. Right now your best is too find some weeds and cast shad raps or flicker shads into them. The bait fish are relating to the weeds and you can then find walleyes keying in on the baitfish. We need some dirty water and then look for the reef bite to really explode.

Here is a link to a 2:44 video that I took on 6/22/2009. It is of a customer of mine who had hooked into the tail of a Srurgeon. We fought to get it in for a quick photo, but the mighty beast got away in a flash. Check it out today..... Sturgeon Video here.
